Competition entries

These images are in no particular order other than how they were edited. All of the images were numbers or given a letter so that the entries were anonymous and the judges would remain impartial

I think that you will all agree with me that they are all very good and we cant thank everyone enough for their time and effort.
All of the comments under the images are made by Kev.

Chris Gill
Bags of character. Soft detail work lets it down.

Chris Gill
A nice little sharp-shooter. The miniature has good costume and character, again let down by rounded details.

Chris Gill
Very Scavvy, methinks.

Chris Gill
Nice mask and hat. The gun looks strangely organic? How the f*** am I going to get that barrel on the bottom of the gun to cast? :D

Chris Gill
There's a lot going on in this miniature. I like him a lot, but once again the details are too soft

Patrick Keith
Cool chick. Good putty control. Nice sharp details. A very 'Hasslefree' theme. Nicely tensed shooting arm. Boobs slightly too high.

Ben Siens
An excellent entry. Armed very similarly to number 7 (different sculptors), they would make a good team. Good details (a little soft in some areas of the cyber arm, but not off-putting) and nice costume.

Grant Jacobson
A slightly twisted and quirky miniature. He's got a nice expression on his face. There are some really nice little details in his equipment. Furry boots could do with a little more work.

Brad Shier
Very nice. Good fur technique. Nice smooth GS control. The join of the cyber arm could be better disguised.

Brad Shier
A cute little guy with optional tricorn. Did someone let on that I like short people? The details are a little soft on the gun and the head lacks a bit of bulk (although this is not apparent when wearing his hat). Despite the details of the gun being soft, I like it. It reminds me of a gun called a 'Jangler' as described in one of my favourite childhood books.

John Morris. Mystic Spirals
A damsel is distress. Every pirate ship needs one. Good drapery on the cloth of the skirt implies movement well.

Ben
Technically he appears to be very good, although not exactly Pirate material. The cloth is draped nicely and he has a dynamic pose. The thing that turned me off about him is the thinness of some of the cybernetic bits and the scarf. Overall, a well thought-out and executed piece. I know Andy would like to make the sculptor an offer for him, so if he doesn't win he'll probably go to a good home.

Valentin de Bruyn
Excellent parrot and sharp metal edges where needed. I like the inhuman feel this guy has, he's pretty creepy. Slightly worried about some of the anatomy though.

Valentin de Bruyn
I like this guy a lot. He would make an excellent 'Heavie' on any pirate spaceship. Good pose. A nice 'Don't mess!' attitude is conveyed and he's nice and fat. Nipples slightly worrying.

Valentin de Bruyn
'Enigmatic'. He reminds me of a race I read about in a book once. I can't remember what it was, or who it was by, but he seems very familiar: This is a Good Thing. He makes me want to know his back story. Nice alien touches without being too alien. If that makes any sense.

B,C and D are by the same sculptor. All show good control of the putty and promise for the future

Alf Vierth
Nicely animated pose. The thing I like most about him his his head, the cybernetics look good without being OTT. The piece is slightly let down by some of the 'softness' of the greenstuff (edges not as crisp as they could be) and what looks like a tendency to over-work some areas. Reminds me of me when I started pushing putty around.

Steven Marchant
Nice concept. He looks big and stupid. Musculature shows promise and the control of the putty is excellent. I like his head and his feet, they're suitably inhuman without going overboard. I keep thinking he needs more arms though. Slightly static pose.

Steven Marchant
Small cute and hooded, what more do you need? He (?) would make a fine Jedi Master. Some of the detail is a bit soft and he doesn't fit in with the Pirate theme. He fits in well with the Mos Eisly bit though. Would make an excellent halfling priest/cleric.

Grant Jacobson
Nice costume and attitude. Most of the details are nice and sharp, except for the bits that are made of metal. I'm not keen on her legs, they look less 'complete' than other areas of the miniature. The drapery of the cloth on her coat is very well done.

Steven Marchant
I like this guy a lot. The costume and gun are nicely done. The blade looks like it lacked quite as much thought as the rest of the miniature. Cloth is not brilliant in areas, but it would paint up very well and would not put me off buying it if I saw it in a shop. Face is lovely.

Alex M
I love him. Brilliant pose and facial features conveying bags of attitude. Not a bad thing to say about him, except that the muscles on the back looks slightly more defined that the rest if the mini.

Glenn Harris
Another excellent sculpt. He looks like he'd cast really well. Costume is very well done and the folds in the cloth are nice. If I had to try and be critical I'd say his left shoulder is too low or not bulked out enough.

Alf Vierth
Again, attitude shines through. The costume is nicely detailed and complicated. Whereas in E there was a tendency to overwork areas of the miniature, it is not present here.

Faron Betchley
Screams 'Bounty Hunter Droid' to me. Some of the details in the metal is slightly soft, but not so much that it would put me off. Let down slightly by the boots. Overall, a very nice mini.

Ming-Hua Kao
A female Pirate Dwarf to go with Kjaran. Perfect :D I like the gun/axe and costume. I can't remember exactly, but I seem to remember she should have a parrot on her left arm....????? or am I dreaming that bit?

Ming-Hua Kao
Ummmmm.... I'm confused. Actually, I'm not. It's a Badger in Powered armour. Thanks, Ming-Hua. Made me laugh!

Gavin Fry
Good pose and detail. I like the cyber-arm.

Gavin Fry
The detail is not as crisp as the other sculpts from this sculptor. Nice idea of the innocent cabin boy with a sting in his tail.

Simon Summers
A Pirate Ogre. What's not to love? Exceptionally smooth GS control. Very good face that reminds me of Jes Goodwins old Ogres. Not keen on the 50s B movie gun though. Nice attachment of the cyber arm to his body and the pistons look like it might actually work.

Gavin Fry
Again, a nicely thought out pose. The things that mark him down for me are the large fingers on the hands and his feet, which look different sizes.

Gavin Fry
A very original pose, that has been nicely done. I worry about the length of his right arm though, and the castability of the hook. Did I mention that I liked his pose? I may steal it.

Mark Craggs
I like the alien look of her facial features. She could be human..... but not quite, if that makes any sense? I'm not keen on her legs, I think their thinness puts the figure off balance

Mark Craggs
Nice choice of arms. The hand holding the pistol is very well done. Good observation skills. The boots appear to be different sizes?

Black Farmer
A lovely little sculpt. The face is full of character and the pose is nice and sneaky.

Richard Henderson
Very good GS control and good detail work. Nice and crisp. Something about the cant of the hips make the pose look a bit stiff. Nice detailing on the cyber arm, but I think it could have done with being 10 to 20 percent smaller.

Steven Marchant
I like this guy a lot even though he's not technically the best sculpt in the world. There's a lot of implied movement in the miniature which I find appealing. What's up with his left appendage? I like his face.
